Using Resort Wear, Everywhere. Adding Color. Exploring Sparkle!
Welcome to my style blog, for those of you who don’t know me I have been writing a style blog since 2007 when I worked with Eileen Fisher, Inc. This year it’s hard to write this and not sound “tone-deaf”, but I believe that we need art and for me, fashion is a wonderful way to express ourselves.
Resort Collections from every major designer arrived without much fanfare this past year. Who would be booking a cruise, trips, or other risky travels? But if you want to be inspired, follow Brandon Maxwell and Nanushka on their 2021 collections.
Here in New England, the weather isn’t necessarily the most friendly in the winter months. I challenge you, however, to go online and check out some of these resort collections if you feel like you need a pop of color. While they may be paired together, these pieces also function as beautiful, exciting separates. Add them to your base neutrals and layer them up!
When working from home, it’s also easy to slip into our “safest” pieces that don’t necessarily leave us feeling excited about what we’re wearing. Try getting yourself out of the “seasonal clothing” rut and start looking at colors. Pick one to start - the color isn’t always easy to choose - and go from there!
For the brave, some great combinations are hot pink and regal purple! Tamer hues such as rich blues, navy, royal blue, and indigo can easily sharpen up your charcoal or heather grey essentials. Consider your one “pop” of color to be something you can add to your neutrals and basics. We can bring color to the world of ZOOM. I promise you.
My big inside tip of the week is that sparkle is the ultimate color. Many brands have offerings that include subdued, sequined sparkle that doesn’t feel like Dancing With The Stars. I love the idea of a galaxy of hand-sewn sequins—some matte, some shiny—as shimmers on seasonal fabric. Look for the end of season items in foresty, earth tones. These last of the “holiday” products can be sought out as an affordable must-have.
And my final call out for color is to go to the online site and support Project Red www.joinred.com. Pick up a great red pop piece to funk up any wardrobe and give support to a great cause - UBUNTU LIFE MASK DESIGNED BY BARO SARRE or the UBUNTU LIFE MASK DESIGNED BY WISETWO.
Until next week...
